People's Tours: Taking the Guide out on the LAndscape

The landscapes of our campus are sites of power: oppressive structures and resistance to them plays out on ground.  A stronger and more unified movement to break open the university can be forged from shared understandings of place. We build these understandings on the pages of the guide, yes, but more so out on the land - a critical part of our methodology is taking people to the places we write about. As we read aloud and collectively discuss histories in the places they happened, we find time to flatten, and can see what has happened before and what is happening now within the same frame. In this way, on the land it becomes much easier to see ourselves situated in a lineage of resistance and recreation of our university into something that actually works for people. 

We offer tours regularly to classes, organizations, conferences, and also host open tours to the public each fall and spring. Contact us at [email protected] if you would like to schedule a tour or learn when the next one is happening. 

You can also lead a tour yourself! In fact, we think this is the purest form of popular education: taking your people to the places in the guide yourself. Use the map on pages 5 and 6 and make sure to utilize the reflection questions at the end of each site entry.
